Eleonora Alcalde Machado is the Graphics Coordinator for the College of Environment & Desig/Center for Community Design and Preservation at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. After receiving her architecture and urban design degree from “Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo Ritter dos Reis” in Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil, she moved to the United States to continue her studies and completed her master degree in landscape architecture at the University of Georgia in 2001. Eleonora’s threefold interest developed into a thesis dealing with environmental graphic design and how graphics preserve a place’s identity. During her undergraduate years in Brazil, Eleonora had the opportunity to learn graphics from experienced professors, and was soon the teaching assistant in the computer graphics class at her university. Her interest in graphics blossomed and she now has over fifteen years experience in the area. At UGA she also tought the Portfolio Development class for undergraduates and graduate students; in this class she helped students develop their visual identity on printed and digital materials helping them be competitive in the job market. She has worked in collaboration with other departments at UGA helping them develop graphics for lectures, conferences, studies abroad programs, etc. Most recently she won an award from the Landscape Architecture journal—Landscape Architecture—for having developed the identity for the UGA Ghana Studies Abroad Program
