Who can participate?
UGA students in the College of Environment and Design (CED)
Students not in the CED should contact Pratt Cassity (pcassity@uga.edu)
to obtain permission to participate.
CED faculty are encouraged to attend. One to three
faculty members usually participate per charrette.
Charrettes are filled on a first come first serve basis.
How to get credit?
Community Design Charrettes:
An Innovative Course in Community Planning
HIPR 4680\6680
Three Credit Hours for successful completion
The purpose of this course is to provide students a real
world opportunity to work side-by-side faculty, local decision
makers and students. The course will require students to
attend two charrettes in a 12-month period while registered
for classes at UGA. Lectures will precede or follow each
charrette experience. (Lectures are mandatory only for the
specific charrette on which the student is participating.)
Students will learn facilitation skills, how to develop
design guidelines and how to use national standards to complete
façade rehabilitations.
Each charrette will be a 2-4-day experience in a small
Georgia town, coastal community or a neighborhood in an
urban area. All costs will be covered and orientation lectures
will be scheduled for times that will not conflict with
other classes.
To register for this course see your program advisor. Additional
questions? Please contact Pratt Cassity (pcassity@uga.edu)
or Julia Reed (jreed@uga.edu).
What is my role?
When you participate
in a charrette all expenses will be paid. That includes:
transportation to and from the charrette location, a copy
of the final report on CD and a chance to experience decisions
on the local level like youve never experienced them
before.
